PRICE OF FOWL WHEAT.
THE BOARD’S OFFER. CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. The response to the Wheat Purchase Board’s offer of last season’s milling wheat at 4s 4d a bushel, f.0.b., sacks extra, has not been great. Just over 2000 sacks have been forwarded to North Island buyers since the Board made its offer on offer is provisional on the wheat being used for the feeding of poultry.

CHRISTCHURCH MARKETS. CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. The grain and produce markets are still quiet. Fowl ‘wheat remains firm. Partridge peas have had sales at 5s lOd, and in cases a little more. The cocksfoot market is quiet and most of the offering has been cleaned up. Prices, if anvthing, are a little easiei’ at from 9-Jd to lid. Ryegrass is quoted at from 2s 9d to 3s, with extra good lines up to 3s 3d. Onions have risen sharply, owing to there being less supplies than antici.pated and owing to farmers keeping off the market. Quotations are from £9 to £9 10s a ton, and in odd cases up to £lO lias been paid. AUCKLAND MARKETS. AUCKLAND, March 19. Potatoes have been in short supply this week, due to the late arrival of the Karetu, which is bringing the first con-, signment of the season from Canterbury. Supplies from the Ohakune district have petered out and merchants have had to return to the lyianawatu for supplies. The wet weather has interfered with deliveries from this source; lienee the present shortage. The Karetu is .now due to arrive on Thursday, after which there should be plenty of potatoes from this and other sources to meet all requirements'. The onion market has advanced m the south, and local merchants have raised the price to 12s per cwt. Since last report, there have been plentiful supplies of) Australian pollard and these have met a steady sale at the lower prices quoted last week. To meet this position local mill prices were lowered to-day £1 per ton, the change to be effective to-morrow. There is a good demand for wheat even at the high price to which this cereal has now been raised. Futures are quoted;— London, April 21s per quarter, June 21s 7d; Liverpool March 4s 93d per cental, May ss, July 5s 2d,' October 5s 4^d. POTATO SHIPMENTS. MAXIMUM WEIGHT SET. CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. Sacks of .potatoes which pass over the Lyttelton wharf must not exceed 1801 b this season. Last year the Lyttelton watersiders complained of excessive weight of the sacks and threatened not to handle them unless some standard were established. A temporary agreement was arrived at whereby the sacks should not exceed 2001 bin weight, and farmers were advised accordingly. This year the arrangement is for sacks not exceeding 1801 b in weight.
BANK OF AUSTRALASIA. PROFIT FOR THE PAST YEAR, LONDON, March 19. The Bank of Australasia, announces a net profit of £265,087, to which is to be added £175,165 brought forward from last year. SYDNEY WOOL SALES. GOOD COMPETITION. SYDNEY, March 19. At the Sydney wool sales, 9832 bales were offered and 9226 were sold while 269 bales were privately disposed of The market was very firm, with good general competition, particularly for good spinning types.
