AVIATORS KILLED
TWO NEW ZEALANDERS
CRASH.IN LOOPING-THE-LOOP. ’PLANE BREAKS INTO PIECES. PART FALLS OFF AT 2000 FEET. FATALITY IN BRITAIN. (United Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 12.25 p.m.) LONDON, March 18. Flying-Officer Edward Bullen Nixon and Acting-Pilot Officer Colin Kirkley, two New Zealanders, were killed when they crashed while looping the loop. Kirkley was undergoing instruction at the Digby Flying School, where Nixon was an instructor. The • ’plane was soaring at 2000 feet in an inverted position when (according to an eye-witness) a portion broke off and the ’plane plunged to earth, disintegrating as it fell. Nixon was found in the cockpit, and Kirkley six yards away. The latter had attempted to use a parachute, which was partly opened. The ’plane was scattered (in a thousand pieces, the propeller not being found. •
