STRIKE CALLED
ROTORUA UNEMPLOYED. CONTRACT! WORK REFUSED. (Per Press Association). 'ROTORUA, March 18. Twenty-four of the twenty-six men selected to begin work at the Rotorua aerodrome refused to undertake the work on the terms laid down by the Unemployment Board when they reported this morning. Subsequently a meeting ol* relief workers was held, at which about forty were present. It was decided to call a general strike on all relief work in the borough. A demonstration was arranged for to-mor-row morning, and it was also decided to picket other jobs, if necessary, in order to compel all workers to join the strike. ...
The men contend that it is impossible to earn ordinary relief rates on the wages paid for work on the aerodrome.
