ENTERTAINMENTS.

MAJESTIC THEATRE. A small town scandal with all its gossip, malicious comment, and petty persecution is revealed in “The Life of Viergie Winters,” starring Ann Harding which concludes at the Majestic Theatre to-night. The pause of the scandal is the tremendous romance of Vergie Winters, played by Miss Harding, and John Shadwell, portrayed by John Buies. Vergie is the town milliner, Shadwell is the community “favourite son,” with a brilliant political future. Prevented! from marrying Vergie, he carries on an affair with her in defiance of conventions after they discover, after Shadwell has been wed to another girl, that they were tricked into their mating by Vergie’s father. Helen Vinson plays the cold and selfish, wife of the story, and Betty Furniss is seen as Miss Harding’s daughter. YOUNG PEOPLE’S EVENING The young people of the Ashburton Church of Christ held a successful effort in aid of the Dominion Youth Fund of the Church in the social hall last evening, Mr E. Hubbard being in charge of the arrangements. The financial result was very satisfactory. Stalls were conducted and games played during the evening. The stallholders were: Produce, Messrs V. Lovett and’ W. Blackburn; Mesdames E. Hubbard and Cleland" sewing, Misses M. Donaldson and C A Finlavson. The Rev. W. E. Vickery presided.
