LORD AND LADY BLEDISLOE. FAREWELED BY THOUSANDS. OFFICIAL AND' PERSONAL ACTS. (Per Press Association). WELLINGTON, This Day. Although the departure of. Lord and Lady Bled isle© coincided with the first rush to morning work in the city, the route from Government House to the wharf was well lined with people’’eager to give them a last farewell. Cheers from the kerb, a wave from Lord Bledislo© and a charming smile from Lady Bledisloe were exchanged from point to point.
Thousands of people were gathered at Glasgow Wharf and in the vicinity and remarkable scenes were witnessed as their Excellencies made their last farewells. All sections of the community were represented and personal farewells were taken of numerous official, military, naval and other people, be sides friends and well-wishers. Prolonged cheering greeter their Excellencies from time to time as they inspected the guard of honour and went aboard the Rangitiki. A salute of 19 guns from Point Jerningham commenced as they went up the gangway. There were moving scenes as the boat moved out to the singing of “Auld Lang Syne” and the National Anthem.
From the bridge their Excellencies waved a last farwell.
Naval and military guards gave the Royal Salute as the vessel left the wharf.
