George Arthur Brest, better known by his screen name of George Arthur, who formerly was a British stage comedian, was arrested upon his arrival from Nassau to-day on a, charge of having stolen a valuable bracelet from Stephen Raphael, a London banker in Cannes. According to the police, the information against Arthur was supplied by a New York society woman who, on the request of Arthur, and not knowing it was stolen property, brought the bracelet to America and later gave it to him here. Arthur is held under a technical indictment of smuggling, although he may be deported to France to stand trial for theft. Arthur gained considerable prominence in the silent motion pictures, teamed with the late Karl Dane, but since the coming of the talkies has not beet) an active performer.
