Freights of Oats and Lambs.—Fairly large freights of oats and fat- lambs are being daily railed from the Mount Somers, Mayfield and surrounding districts. Grain carting to the Ashburton stores is now at its height and it is understood that a fairly large proportion of the wheat is being stored, as farmers, who are in a position to ,hold their grain, prefer to store instead of accepting the current prices for grain that has been exposed to the weather. Farewell Social.—A good-bye social was given to Mr R. Blair (late Presbyterian home missionary) by friends in the Sea view and Wakanui districts at Seaview last Saturday. After a short musical programme, the Rev. G. B. Inglis, who oocupied the chair, presented Mr Blair with a purse of sovereigns and wished him success on behalf of the subscribers. Charitable Aid Board.—ln consequence of Ashburton having assumed control of its own charitable aid affairs it will be necessary for the newly-elect-ed board to make provision for offices in some central position. The whole oP the available room at both the County and Borough Council .Chambers is fully occupied, so that it will be necessary for the Board to build or rent suitable offices or to erect an entirely new building.
