MAYFIELD SHOW
FIXTURE FOR SATURDAY. SMALL DECREASE IN ENTRIES. While entries for the Mayfield Agricultural and Pastoral Association's annual show this year show a small decrease compared with those lor last year's fixture, the total is well above the average for recent shows, the dry season has no doubt been responsible for the decline. . The Association's exhibition retains a prominent place among the farming organisations of the'Ashburton County and the fifteenth annual show to be held on Saturday promises to be a most successful one. Residents from many parts of Canterbury will attend as m the past, it is expected, and the day will be a profitable one for all. The total number of entries this vear is 1922, compared with 2113 last Vear, 1836 in 1933, 1801 in 1932, 1841 in 1931 and the record entry of 2200 in 1930. . . . Increases have been registered in cattle, draught horses, light horses, ponies, pigs, needlework, and juvenile classes, while those sections showing a decrease are sheep, wool, poultry, farm produce, field roots, vegetables and iruit, daily produce, honey, cooking, preserves, and flowers. A rabbit section appears on the schedule for the first time. Thus it will be seen that most livestock sections show an increased patronage. The decrease in sheep and roots may be attributed directly to the weather. Arrangements are being finalised and officials expect to have the organisation irunning well at an early hour on Saturday morning.
