MAJESTIC THEATRE A picture out of the ordinary is “Mala, tho Magnificent” which will be screened at the Majestie Theatre tonight and to-morrow night with a. matinee to-morrow afternoon. Filmed amid the blizzard-swept wastes of the sub-arctic regions of north-western Canada, it includes some magnificent scenic shots but it is much more than a travel picture. The views of the nomadic Eskimo and their life-in primeval conditions are undoubtedly an education but they form the background to a powerful drama. Those who enjoy exciting action will find their tastes liberally catered for in this film. The hunting of a vast herd of caribou, which are chased into the water before being killed, and ofi walruses and whales, provide much thrilling action. SWIMMING CLUB’S DANCE, A very successful dance was held by tho East Ashburton Amateur Swimming Club in the Hampstead Hall last evening at the close of the carnival in the baths. There was a good attendance of members and friends. Mr R. Daybourn supplied the music, and Miss J. McDonald played an extra. Mr R. Keeley was M.C.
