SILVER TREE.
ANNUAL MISSIONARY EFFORT. METHODIST WOMEN'jS WORK. The annual Silver Tree effort in connection with the Baring Square branch of the Methodist Women's Missionary Union was held yesterday afternoon, and proved a very successful function. The church hall was tastefully decorated for the occasion, the Silver Tree occupying a prominent' position on the platform. '
The president (Sister Mildred) apologised for the absence of the Rev. G. B. Hinton, and called upon Mr F. Frampton (senior church officer) to open proceedings. Mr Frampton, who was presented with a buttonhole by Master Leonard Hopkins, referred' to the work done by the various branches of the Union, and congratulated those present on their success. The amount raised throughout New Zealand during the year was a record and was greatly appreciated by the Home and Foreign Mission Board, as was also the promise to increase that amount this year. In declaring the. sale open Mr Frampton wished all a successful afternoon. Musical and elocutionary items were contributed by the following: Vocal solos, Mesdames G. Holmes and W. RFeatherston; piano solo, Miss O. Watts; guitar solo, Mr G. Holmes; recitation, Miss M. Amos. Misses B. Chapman and M. Kelly acted as accoinpanistes. Afternoon tea was served and good business done, the stalls being practically sold out. The gifts were removed from the tree and favourite quotations ,iead. The proceeds amounted to £23.
A very hearty vote of thanks was accorded the speaker, performers, and all who had contributed to the success of the afternoon.
