FALSE PRETENCES.
TWELVE MONTHS' SENTENCE. (Per Piress Association). DUNEDIN, This Day. Elwood Cuthbertson, who was recently sentenced to 12 months' imprisonment for false pretences in connection with tobacco frauds, to-day pleaded guilty to lhaving obtained £sl) by representing that he was the owner of a motor-car. The police stated that while on bail on the charge of false pretences accused advertised a car for sale in a local paper. A university student answered the advertisement and bought the car for £l3O, depositing £SO. The car sold by accused was hired from Wanaka Motors.
The Magistrate said it was impossible to conceive a more bare-faced fraud.
Accused was sentenced to 12 months in goal, to be served at the expiration of his present sentence.
