The harvesF being over so early this season, the Winehmore branch of the Women's 'Division of the New Zealand Farmers' Union was able to hold its February meeting. There was a large attendance, and a pleasant time was spent. An interesting demonstration on making dishes out of eld records was given by Mrs D. MeKendry, who was accorded a vote ofi thanks. Seott, Mrs J. Shearer and Miss Shearer.
RUAPUNA. The Ruapuha- Hall was well filled on Saturday night, when a kitchen evening was given to Miss K. Lane and Mr R. Love, whose wedding will take place this week. The evening was spent in dancing to music supplied by Mrs S. Shimmin, and extras were played by Mr H. Claughton (Hinds). Humorous items w r ere given by Mr J. McObmbs (Arundel). During an interval Mr J. Moore expressed the good wishes of those present and asked the guests of honour to accept the numerous gifts. A lucky spot one-step was wen by Miss H. Galletly and Mr D. Lane. On Saturday afternoon the Mayfield Tennis played a return match against the Ruapuna Club on the local courts. The game resulted in a win for,the home team by 14 sets to 9. The harvest thanksgiving service was held on Sunday afternoon at All Saints' Anglican church. The church was prettily decorated, and a quantity of fruit, vegetables, preserves and eggs was received for the benefit of St. Saviour's orphanages. The service was taken by tne vicar (the Bev. W. T. Williams), arid Miss G. Ross presided at the organ. ,A meeting of the Ruapuna Bible Class was held in the hall on Thursday evening, the Rev. A. D. Kirkland presiding. It was decided to hold the class fortnightly, beginning on March 5. Miss Mary McLay was elected secretary, and Mr A. McLay treasurer. RAKAIA. A special morning tea marked the presentation of a beaten copper firescreen by the staff of J. Pye and 1 Co., Ltd., to Mr E. Pye, whose marriage will take place shortly. LAURISTON. On Saturday afternoon, at the tennis courts,- a successful and enjoyable Yankee tournament was held. Nearly 30 players took part, and five complete rounds were_put through. Many even games resulted, and the tournament provided' good practice for members. The prizes were won by Miss Eileen Maidens and S. Drew. At the conclusion of the games cheers were given for the winners and for the club captain, Forrest Letham, who ably conducted the tournament.
At a special meeting of the commitr tee of the Lauriston Tennis Club it was decided to holaf the annual dance next month. It was also resolved to arrange as many friendly matches as possible before the end of the season.. The rain last Friday was most beneficial to rape and turnip crops, but it will require a much larger fall to benefit grass paddecks, which are bare of feed of any description.
