DAIRY BOARD.

COMPANIES' REPRESENTATIVES. THE NOMINATIONS CLOSED. (Special to the "Guardian.") WELLINGTON, February 18. Nominations for the election of three representatives of dairy companies to the New Zealand Dairy Board, to be carried out under the terms of the Agriculture (Emergency Powers) Act, closed to-day. Five nominations have been reecived for the northern ward, seven for the middle ward, and three for the southern ward. The election will be held on March 12. The present board will be extinguished by Order-in-Council, hTe nominations are:— Northern Ward. Ernest George Appleton, Turiwiri, Northern Wairoa. Samuel Andrew Ferguson, Motumaoho, Morrinsyille. William Grounds, Hokianga. Alfred James Murdoch, Whangarei.. Thomas Mervyn Wells, Cambridge.

Middle Ward. Neil Campbell, Kauwhata, Manawaitu. Cyril Guy Conduitt Dermer, Makino, Feilding. Walter Clement Guy| Green, Rahotu. Andrew Linton, Lower Hutt, Featherston. Benjamin Roberts, Carterton. Samuel Thomas Paviour Smith, Dannevirke. Robert Boswell Sutton, Inglewood. Southern Ward. John Dunlop, Seaward Downs. Andrew Rollo Guild, Milford, Temuka. William Lee, Goodwood. The new board will consist of seven members—the three elective members, three Government nominees, and one appointed by the New Zealand Cooperative Dairy Company, Ltd. The name 3of the Government's members will be announced after the poll,for the elective members. Five of the candidates are members of the' present board—Messrs Grounds, Dermer, Green, Dunlop, and Lee. MiFerguson was at one time a member of the board. , The southern ward comprises the whole of the South Island, Stewart Island, and the Chatham Islands. Mr Dnnlop is assured of a block vote in Southland, with Mr Lee and Mr Guild splitting the Canterbury vote. Mr Dunlop's chances of election are, therefore, considered bright. No indioation of identity of its representative on the board has yet been given by the New Zealand Co-opera-tive Dairy Company, Ltd. It is anticipated, however, that either the chairman of directors of the company (Mr R. H. McKerizie) or the deputy-chair-man (Mr F. Hughes) will be appointed. It can be taken for granted that Mr

W. A. loms, of Martinborough, the chairman of the present board, will be 1 one of the Government nominees on the new board. Another appointee is expected to be Mr T. A. Winks, of Haw'era, who is a Government nominee of the present board 1 .
