PERSONAL.

Dr. F. P. Keppell (president of. the Carnegie Corporation of New York) passed through Ashburton on the express train for the north last evening.

The Revs. G. B. Hinton (Ashburton) and W. E. Moore (Rakaia) left by car to-day to atend the annual conference of the Methodist Church of New Zealand in Dunedin.

Mr W. C. J. Osman, who has been ill, left Ashburton yesterday to spend a holiday in Nelson. He was accompanied by Mrs Osman.

Mr S. J. Irwin, formerly headmaster of the Ashburton Borough School, has taken up the position of senior inspector of schools in Southland.

Mr H. T. Weston, of Ashburton, formerly, on the staff of the Ashburton Po.pt Office, has been transferred from Cromwell to Oama'ru.

Mrs CL, Atkinson was.presented with a picture by teachers in the primary department of St. Andrew's iPresbyterian Sunday School on Sunday, afternoon in view of her recent marriage.

Mr F. Webb-Jones (editor of the "Wanganui Herald") Ayas a passenger for Dunedin on the south-bound express train this morning. He will attend the Dominion Methodist Conference there this week.

The Mayor (Mr W. H. Woods) was last' evening appointed to represent the Ashburton Borough Council at the annual municipal conference, which will be opened at Christclmrch on March 10.

Mr W. A. H. ,Sharpe (headmaster of the Mount Somers School) became ill suddenly on Sunday afternoon and was removed to the Public Hospital. Although his condition is reported to be satisfactory an operation may be necessary.

Mr J. O'Connor, of Asbnrton, has passed the tests for a license as an aeroplane pilot, the examination having been conducted at Christclmrch by Squadron-Leader J. L. Findlay. There is now a total of 80 pilots trained by the Canterbury Aero Club since it started operations a little ever.five years ago.

Among the delegates to the Dominion conference of the '' Methodist Church in Dunedin who passed through Ashburton on the south-bound express train this morning Avere Dr. C. H. Laws (editor of the "Methodist Times"), the Revs. A. J. Seamcr (Home and Maori Mission Superintendent), M. A. Rugby Pratt (Connexional Secretary), and' Mr R. C. Clark (principal of Wesley Training College, Paerata).
