(From Our Own Correspondents.) RAKAIA. A A social afternoon was held at the residence of Mrs Nicol, the Schoolhouse, Rakaia, on Wednesday in aid of the All .Nations - Fair. It was decided to hold the fair in the Town Hall on March 29. A competition was won by Miss 0. Shannon, with Misses Hopwood and Bowden equal second. \ Humorous recitations were given by Miss Ashford. The- following stallholders were' appointed:—Work',’ Misses J. 'Stevenson and H. Shannon (Spanish); fancy, Mesdames Nicol and Pye (Ireland); . cake, Mesdames AA\ J. Lee, Newman and Miss Newman (Scotland 1 ); fish pond, Miss Ashford (Norwegian); sweets, Misses Lee and M. Oakley (Dutch); jumble, Miss Clark and Mrs G. Shannon. (Indian); Iljd, Mrs A. Wilson and Miss Oakley (Russian); refreshment room, Mesdames CL Shannon, A. Shannon, F. Greenaway, Miss Boyd and helpers (Rumanian Gipsies). A bring-and-buy stall and afternoon tea realised £lßs 3d. 1 A meeting of! the committee of the Rakaia Tennis Club was held in the library on AVednesday evening. It was decided' to hold a doubles and singles competition. A vote of thanks was passed to Mr G. S. Hardy for donating trophies for the competitions j- It was decided to hold a general meeting- of the. club at an early date to decide the date of the annual ball. A meeting of the school committee was held on AA’ednesday evening. The headmaster’s report showed that the attendance was well below the average. The Presbyterian Men’s Bible Class was granted the use of the 1 school for a camp to be held during the Easter holidays. Mr C. Eyison’s resignation was accepted with regret. A meeting of the Rakaia Boy Scouts’ Committee was- held in the lodge hall on Tuesday evening. Mr S. AVilson presided. It was reported that the site for the scout hall was being cleared near St. Mark’s Schoolroom, and the building would be' proceeded with shortly.
