THE WEATHER.
SULTRY CONDITIONS TO-DAY. Gloriously fine weather conditions were experienced in Ashburton again to-day, though there was a good deal more cloud in the sky. The wind was from the north and north-west and the day was sultry, with a hint of wind yet to come. Readings at the weather station in the .Domain for the 24 hours ended ot 9 a.m. to-day were thermometer 78.1 degrees, and 52.3‘ degrees (maximum and minimum). The barometer, standing at 29.82 inches, showed a slight fall on yesterday morning’s reading. TO-DAY’S FORECAST. (Per Piress Association). WELLINGTON, This Hay. The Government Meteorologist, at noon to-day, issued the following statement regarding the weather General inference: A depression is now moving on to New ’Zealand from the Tasman Sea. Barometers are already rising over the western Tasman. The forecast for the east coast of the South Island from Blenheim, to Oamaru is as follows: — Strong northerly winds reaching gale force in places, hut a southerly change advancing from the. south during to-night. Weather fair and warm at first but gradually becoming unsettled and rain developing. Cooler to-morrow. Seas rough north of Kaikoura, elsewhere moderate.
