Exceptional tidal floods are causing great damage, gondolas carrying the populate over St. Mark's Square. Several old houses collapsed and the marble decorations of a number oi : palaces are dropping off. The damage is serious as it follows extensive undermining of the foundations of palaces from the effects of motor-boat traffic. The populate is hastily moving furniture to the upper floors.
