PREPARATIONS FOR NEW DEAL. THE PRESIDENT HEARTENED. (United Press Association—Copyright) NEW YORK, Nov. 8. Tbe victory of the Democrat party in the elections, which grows more impressive as - the ; returns come in, heartend Mr Roosevelt to-day as he began preparations to extend the New Deal. Outstanding Republican foes of the Administration were beaten, and the Democx-ate gained nine seats in the Senate* increasing their representation to 69/ In the Lower House the Democrats more than held their own, with indications that the party will have 313 of the 435 seats. The Democrats gained complete control of governorships, senators and representatives in; 23 States. The results constituted) not only an astonishing popular endorsement ot the New Deal, but a definite repudiation of the extremely conservative Republican element. Senator D. A. Reed (Pennsylvania,), one of the outstanding 1 critics of the Roosevelt policies, failed to secure re-election. . Democrat leaders are very pleased by Mr Upton Sinclair's defeat, on the grounds that,it purges the party ot Radicals.
