How the girl victim of the kidnap-, ping was rescued was related by her uncle, Carlos Robles, county attorney, of Tuscon, Arizona. Accompanied by another attorney (Mi Clarence Houston), Mr Carlos Robles accordingly, set out to search the desert. , "We reached the region indicated by the crude map in the letter," he said, "and searched separately for three hours, Suddenly I heard Houston call me. I saw him go down on his knees near a thick clump of cactus. When I saw him. pick up a iwhite bundle L thought June was dead." The trench in which the girl 'was;; found was sheltered from the blazing sunshine by dirty sacking.'and cactus leaves. The aperture was so small that Mr Houston could not enter. Lying near the entrance was*a key winch he threw in, and the girl hereelf unlocked the padlocks attached to the heavy chains to which she was bound. • She was sucking an orange when she was discovered. Her skin wag severely burned by the sun, but she was suffering from a slight chill from the cold desert nights. Her ankles were badly . chafed by the chains. For food she can have had only water, stale.bread and a; few vegetables. Her first words were, "I want Mamma." i «.> '
