SAMOA DELIGHTED.
LARGER BANANA QUOTA. (United Press Association— Copyright) APIA, November/ B._ The Administration of Western Samoa (Brigadier-General H. E, Hart) announced at a. meeting of the Legislative Council that the Samoan banana quota had been increased, starting m January next, to 3000 cases during the months from May to September and to 4000 cases for other months. The Union Steam Ship Company's steamers will handle the increased export. This announcement has been received with great satisfaction by planters, as production is now considerably in ' excess of the present quota, The additional cash" distributed will help to stimulate the retail trade, which . at present is stagnant. . • At present 25,000 cases of bananas are allowed into New Zealand in winter months and 35,000 in summer months, from all sources, a prominent Christchurch merchant, explained last evening. The amount supplied by each of the producing centres'is regulated by a quota and this merchant said he "expected that the Samoan increase would mean a reduction m one or some of the other quotas. the Maui Pomare would not be able to handle the quantities mentioned, even though she was to be enlarged soon. Tenders for handling the Samoan bananas in 1935 closed yesterday. An Auckland firm holds the present contract. * ■ '
