HIGH TEMPERATURE RECORDED. The sun has ibeen from a cloudless sky all day, and with a slight north-west tendency in the breeze, the temperature early rose to a,considerable figure, while at 1 o'clock the thermometer was reading 84 degrees. There was only one day last summer on which the temperature was above that. This was 84.8 degrees on December 15. On only 10 days of last summer did the thermometer read 80 or over. These days v. ere: November 3, 82 degrees; December 5, 81.4; December 6, 81; December 14, 83.3; December 15, 84.8; January 11, 82.4; Januuary 25, 82.6: February 5, 82,2; February 25, 82.6; February 26, 81. The highest reading of the thermometer yesterday was 70 degrees and the West (in the night) was 44.0 degrees. There has been a slight fall in the barometer, which was standing at 29.94 inches this morning. TO-DAY'S FORECAST. (Per Press Association). WELLINGTON, This Day. The Government Meteorologist, at noon to-day, issued the following statement regarding the weather: — General inference: An anti-cyclone is moving gradually eastwards off New Zealand and an intense depression is advancing across the Tasman Sea. The forecast for the east coast of the South Island from Blenheim to Oamaru is as follows: — Northerly winds' and reaching gale force at places. Weather fair to warm and sultry, but with increasing cloud. Seas becoming rough offshore.
