WELLINGTON, October 26 In the House to-day. when the Unemployment Fund Vote was being discussed in Committee, the Minister was askied wha,t increases of salary had been given members of the Unemployed Board. ." , ' . The Hon. J. A. Young said that when a member of the board was appointed deputy-ehairmaiii his salary was not increased. His salary then was £4OO, and it was now-proposed to increase it to £650. The second member of the ,board (Mr J. A, Pascoe) was doing valuable work, and it was proposed to give him a fixed salary of £6UO. The third member received £270. Mr P. Eraser (Lab., Wellington -Central) moved that the vote be reduced by £395 to leave the salaries as they were. , , Other Labour members protested against the increase while there were many persons dependent on the board receiving less than £SO a yaar. The ability of members of the, board was 'not questioned. The amendment was lost by 2i) votes to 23, and the vote passed.
