EARTH TREMORS.
IN THE MASTERTON DISTRICT. DAMAGE TO CHIMNEYS. (Special to the " Guardian.") MASTERTON, August 9. Masterton is again experiencing earth tremors. In districts to the north of the town yesterday several shakes were experienced, in which articles were djslodged from shelves and damage dono to chimneys. Considerable alarm was caused, as residents in tho localities affected expected a repetition of- the disastrous shakes of some months ago when about fifty thousand pounds' worth of damage was done locally. Many of the business premises damaged by the earthquake then are still in the hands of the builders being repaired. While Masterton itself did not feel the shakes yesterday, two earthquakes were felt in tho town at 8 o'clock tins morning. The first was a long rumble and quiver, followed by a, decided bump, which caused considerable alarm and resulted in people making for the streets and open spaces. Only minor damage is reported to have been done.
