WOOL RESEARCH
PROPOSED LEVY APPROVED.
(Per Press Association). CHRISTCHURCH, August 8. The executive of the North Canterbury branch of the Farmers' Union, after a full discussion, decided to support the Government Bill providing for a levy on wool to provide a fund for research in relation to sheep and wool. The meeting was of the opinion, however, that the money raised should be used in great part lor the investigation of sheep diseases and sheep husbandry, ad not confined to wool research. An amendment to the Bill to make this clear was recommended. It was also recommended that the levy should be 6d instead of 4d a bale because it was feared that 4d a bale would not yield enough for effective work on tliejmany problems awaiting solution. SUPPORT IN WAIRARAPA. MA'STERTON, August 3. Members of the Masterton Agricultural and Pastoral Association at the annual meeting to-day forwarded the proposal to levy 4d a bale on wool for research, a motion seeking to enter a protest against the levy being heavily defeated. The meeting also favoured the lifting of the embargo on the importation of stock from Great Britain.
