TON-WEIGHT BULLOCK
LOADED ON FERRY STEAMER. ELEPHANT BOX USED. (Special to the " Guardian.") WELLINGTON, August 7. Four large bullocks were loaded on the steamer express Rangatira yesterday afternoon. They are from the farm of Mr D. J. Holden, of Maungateretere, Hastings. Three are Shorthorns, and one a Rolled Angus crossed with Hereford. The Polled Angus cross bullock is easily the largest of the quartet, being well over a ton in weight, the total weight of the four being nearly four tons. Great difficulty was experienced in handling the bullocks yesterday, the race from the truck to the railway yards not being wide enough, whicb necessitated the door and the side o\ the race being taken off. In order to load. the bullocks on the steamer the services of an elephant box had to bo utilised. The bullocks are going forward to the doublo market at Addington. Breeders from all over New Zealand consign to this market and to top the price is the highest honour among beef breeders in Although sending sheep down to this market fox many years, this is the first occasion on which Mr Holden has attempted i ? secure the beef premiership.
