SENSATION AT BECKENHAM. Hill (manager of the Self-Help Store at Beckenham) has been admitted to hospital. Fairly' se—>( yere injuries were inflicted by a wooden club. Mr Hill was first addressed by name and then struck. His cries attracted the attention of a passer-by and the ", assailant made off. Subsequently the police were informed and made an arrest. v After being dazed by the first blow, Mr Hill, it is alleged, was ; struck againl He held on'to his assailant and called! for help. A struggle ensued, in which the man lost his club and mask. He then grabbed a bottle of .kerosene, with which he again knocked Mr Hill down. Apparently then by the uproar, the man made off by the path'through to Tennyson ■ Street. He was seen, it is stated, by &'passer-by 1 , who formation to the police. Mr Hill was found lying, semi-con-scious, 'on the floor of the store-4-ooin. He was admitted to hospital suffering ifrom injuries to his head. His. con.dition is not serious.

The police found at the scene of -the'struggle a wooden club, which had a rubber grip. •
