VESSEL ASHORE.
MISHAP IN NEW GUINEA. IN NO IMMEDIATE DANGER. (United Press Association— Copyright). ' SYDNEY, August 8. A radio message reports that the Island steamer Montoro is ashore at Fortification Island, near Minschafen, New Guinea. The passengers have -been landed and the cargo is being discharged. With more than eight feet of water in No 1 hold, the vessel is bumping on the rocks, but there is no immediate danger. , An attempt will be made to tow the vessel off when the cargo is unloaded. The passengers have gone to Salamoa, 80 miles distant.
SHIPS SENT TO ASSISTANCE. PUMPS COPING .WITH WATER. (Received This Day, 10.55 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. The steamer Maiwera is proceeding to the assistance of the Montoro, but is not expected to reach the stranded vessel before to-morrow. Other ships -have been advised and it is possible that they will .give assistance to beach the Montoro to-day. Although the ship is holed, the pumps, working continuously, are to a large extent able to cope with the (inrush of water.' REFLOATED THIS MORItfNG. (Received This Day, 1.50 p.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. . The agents advise that the Montoro was refloated this morning.
