THE FRENCH CHAMPIONSHIPS VON CRAMM BEATS CRAWFORD. PARIS, June 2. In a match that lasted two hours 35 minutes, G. von Cramm (Germany; beat J. H. Crawford (Australia), 6-4, 7-9 3-6 7-5. 6-3. in the final of the French lawn tennis championships. Crawford had led by two sets to one and had had match point at 5-4 m the fourth set-. ~,"',, , i From start to finish both gave brilliant exhibitions of side-line driving, each player sweeping his opponent ott the court through sheer brilliance. Crawford appeared slack m the nrtii set and von Cramm raced to 5-2 and won the set 6-3 for the championship. In the semi-finals of the men s doubles Menzel and Hecht began very strongly against Crawford and McGrath, but at the beginning of the second set the Australians took control. Menzfil and Hecht both failed to reproduce anything like the term they had shewn against Perry and Hughes, .. , , ~ . Borotra and Brugnon displayed then old-time generalship in defeating Quist and TurnbulL The second sot took an hour to play. Quist failed to win any of his first four services and was also uncertain overhead throughout the match. Brugnon save a brilliant display of driving.
