BAD-FAMILY TRAGEDY

NEW YORK, April 4

Great loss of life occurred in terrific floods in the Central and Eastern United States, when a wave of- hot weather melted the last of the winter snows. ' ?." _ The Washita River, in northern Oklahoma, suddenly spread to a width of two mites, drowning 23 white settlers and destroying an Indian camp, where 14 natives are believed to have lost their lives". -.; A farmer, Mr Andrew Adams, and his wife and eight children, w.ere perched on the roof of their' dwelling as it floated away. Approaching a bridge, Mr Adams and his three elder boys" leaped to safety but could not hold the house against the powerful current. The mother and five daughters were swept away and drowned.
