NICOL BEATS LISTER. INVERCARGILL, .April 18. The Southland Boxing Association staged two professional contests tonight in the Civic Theatre, which was packed. Ray Nicol ,(Ohai), 12st 71b, defeated Harry Lister (Greymouth), list 51b, on points in a ten-round contest. The bout was full of action, and was voted one of the .best fights ever staged in Invercargill. Lister sent Nicol down for .tivo in the first round with a left swing to the jaw. Maurice Strickland (Wellington), 12st 71b, won on a technical knock-out in the. fifth round against Billy Sullivan (Hastings), 12st 81b- Strickland was much too good for Sullivan.PALMER DEFEATS ROBERTSON. NELSON, April 18. In a professional boxing match Dave Palmer (Nelson), lOsfc 41b. defeated Watty Robertson (Gisborne), lOst 61b, Robertson throwing in the towel at the end of the fifth round, owing to a thumb injury. Palmer was leading easily on points.
