INCREASED PAY.

COLD MINERS AT' WAIHI. SPECIAL QUARTERLY BONUS. ' . t . • . • ‘ \ fPer Press Association). ; WAIHI, This Day. _ Following a three days’ sitting, a conciliation court, at which Mr P.. Hally (Commissioner) presided, concluded the hearing last evening of applications by Waihi Miners’ Union and the district branches of the Amalgamated Engineers and Engine-drivers’ Union for a new industrial agreement with the Waihi Goldmining Company and the Golden Dawn Goldmining Company, for restoration of the 10 per cent cut imposed in June 1931. The result was that the miners’ representatives accepted the Waihi Company’s'offer of an increase of Is 3d a day, in the form of a special bonus payment, payable quarteily, on a 44liour week.

The case of the Golden Dawn Company, which so far has not shown profits, was adjourned for a few days after the owners’ representative (Mr 3 J Farrell) had made it that the company was not in a position to pay the increased rate. , Mr J. Roberts (miners’ advocate) suggested that it should be .left to the workers employed by this company to decide whether they were prepared to go on under the current rate, or alternatively, face the possibility of the mine closing. This aspect would be discussed* at a meeting of miners. The sub-unions concerned also accepted the Waihi Company’s terms.
