THE WAITANGI HUI.

VERY LARGE MEETINGS HELD. WEATHER PROSPECTS GOOD. (Per Press Association). WAITANGI, This Day. The advent of the great hui has transformed Pahia from a sleepy spot on a peaceful bay to a bustling hive of many-sided industries. Ancient observance and modern progress march together in this place, where the history of 94 years ago is being recreated. Very large meetings are being held. Over 1000 attended one last evening, addressed by several speakers, the proceedings being interspersed by numerous chants and laments. One party sang Hongi's wife's lament over the death of Hongi, recounting his exploits and loading incidents in his life. Seven hundred and fifty Maoris will arrive to-day. The weather has taken up and prospects for the success of the' celebrations next week are very bright.
