FINE AND, MILD TO-DAY. With the sun shining in a blue sky with scattered clouds and no wind, conditions were very mild to-day. Swimming bath,? and sports grounds were well patronised and many peoplo spent the afternoon out-of-doors. The barometric pressure rose still further overnight, the reading at 9 o'clock this morning being 30.5 inches, compared with 30.2 inches yesterday morning and 30.12 inches on Thursday morning. Extremes of shade temperature yesterday and last night were 70.2 degrees and 51.6 degrees, while those on Thursday were 70.2 degrees and 53.1 degrees.

TO-DAY'S FORECAST. (Per Press Association). WELLINGTON, This Day. The Government Meteorologist, at noon to-day, issued the following statement regarding the weather:— General Inference: The weather in New Zealand is still controlled mainly by an anticyclone, centred near the Chatham Islands, which has increased somewhat in intensity. The cyclone located yesterday on the coast of New South Wales is apparently moving southward, and is likely to miss New Zealand. The weather, however, should gradually become unsettled. The forecast for the east coast of the South Island from Blenheim to Oamaru is as follows: Moderate but increasing northerly winds, later reaching gale force in place.?. Weather fair to fine and warni to hot. Seas moderate, but becoming rough about Cook Strait.
