ARBITRATION COURT.
APPRENTICESHIP CASE. DECISION RESERVED. (Per Press Association). WELLINGTON, January 31. The Arbitration Court to-day reserved its decision after hearing an application for a new order to replace the existing; Carpenters' and Joiners Apprenticeship Order. The applicants were the employers, and the proposed amendments included one providing * s that the workers affected should be extended to include joiners' machinists and that the age restriction of lo should be removed. It Avas also contended that the present wages were too high. • . It was stated that the number ot apprentices taken on in the carpentry anl joinery branches of -the building industrv had fallen away very scrimwlv figures being given as iollows: mP 361; 1930, 2$ f 1931, 62; 1932, 15; and 1933/9. Evidence was given, and afterwards it was submitted tor the union that the proposals were tor the purpose of covering an attempt to reduce the wages of apprentices.
