PRISON SONG TRAGEDY
FORTUNE FOR A WIFE. Behind the death of Guy Massey, an, English musician, which occurred in New York, a few weeks ago, lies tragedy of fame and fortune won too late. A native of Liverpool and known in London soon after the Avar, Massey Avcnt to America some years ago. Convicted there of some offence, he Avas sent to Sing Sing, and Avhile in the prison Avas permitted to marry a girl avlio had befriended him. In prison heart-broken after parting from his bride, be wrote an emotional ballad, “The Prisoner’s Song.” This eventually found its Avay, through a friend of the Avife, to a fellow musician, who had it published. After Massey had served six months of his sentence a firm of lawyers engaged by his Avife, Avith money obtained from royalties, had his case reopened, and proved his innocence. The result Avas his release a few Aveeks before bis death.
Mrs Massey is uoav reaping a fortune from the song her husband wrote for her.
