BRAVERY AT SEA.

LINER IN A HURRICANE. MIDSHIPMAN’S CODEAGE. (United Preßs Association—Copyright). LONDON, January 25. The Prince of Wales, as Master of the Merchant Navy, congratulated Midshipman Timms, who displayed exceptional bravery and endurance in the '*■ Blue Funnel liner Phoius, which recently, for live days, was at the mercy * of a hurricane in the Caribbean Sea. So violent was the wind, that the hatch covers were ripped off and the thirtyton funnel lifted bodily out of the vessel’s decks. Midshipman Timms’s head was cut open during the hurricane, but for twenty-three hours in the scuppers, he poured oil on the water beneath the vessel’s bows. The captain declared that failure would have meant almost certain disaster, as 1200 tons of water poured in through the open hatches.—British Official Wireless.
