AN OLD OFFENDER.
RACING CYCLIST CHARGED. CHASED BY A CONSTABLE. (Per Press Association). CHRISTOHURCH, This Day. In the course of a successful career as a racing cyclist, William J. Lamberton has jmaken off some of the best riders in New Zealand, but he was beaten by Constable Stewart in a short sprint a few nights ago. To-day Lainberton appeared in Court charged" with having cycled at night without a light and with not having a bell, a reef reflector, or a white rear mudguard. He was further charged with having obstructed a. constable. The, Sub-Inspector described it as a bad case by a persistent offender. He added that when Lainberton was challenged by the constable lie attempted to get away. He was chased by the, constable on big cycle and was caught about 150 yards down the road. He then gave a false name and address and it was not until some time later, when ho Vas taken to the station that he gave his true name. Lainberton had appeared in Court many times and had 16 convictions.
Lainberton pleaded guilty and fines amounting to £2 15s were imposed.
