ENTHUSIASTIC WELCOMES. (Per Press Association). INVERjCARGILL, January 24. Enthusiastic welcomes were accorded to the Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes) at several centres in the Awarua electorate to-day. At each •town he visited many citizens gathered to meet the Prime Minister, this being in keeping with the receptions which he has received at every centre he has stopped at during iiis week’s visit to Central Otago and Southland. More than 200 persons assembled at Bluff to hear .the Prime Minister speak for 10' minutes, while at Winton he was given a complimentary luncheon by local bodies of the district. Later in the day lie visited the annual sports gathering at Browns, where he briefly addressed more than 1000 persons, receiving hearty applause and cheers. Mr Forbes was exceptionally interested in .the sawing wood chopping events, and spent some"time with the competitors.
Mr Forbes was entertained at a gathering representative of Southland 1 , organised by the Invercargill Chamber of Commerce. Replying to the toast of his health, Mr Forbes said the position to-day generally should inspire confidence. The rise in the price of wcol, he had been informed, would remain for at least two years, and the nieat industry also was favourably placed. New Zealand should ho conndent, and he was sure that financially the year would be easier than any since the onset of £Tie depression.
