PAY AT CHRISTMAS. THE BOARD'S INTENTION. (Per Press Association). WELLINGTON, December 5. In the House of Representatives today Mr W. E. (Parry (Lib., Auckland Central) drew attention to a press cablegram from Australia. Ho asked whether the Government would! make similar provision for the unemployed nl Christmas time as was proposed by Mr B. S. B. Stevens (Premier of New South Wales). He said that Mr Stevens had stated that the Government would allocate £IO,OOO for Christmas expenditure on eggs, oranges, honey, cheese, and vegetables for needy.families. The Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. G. W. For lies) said the Unemployment Board in its first year had made a contribution of £IO,OOO 'at Christmas time, and in its second year had contributed £15,000. Last year it had paid the full allowance for two weeks without calling on relief workers to perform any Work, and it proposed' to make the same provision this year. He said that this involved the expenditure of £IOO,OOO this year, and he regretted that the fund would not permit any additional help.
