CRICKET.

THE ASHBURTON ASSOCIATION.

The Management Committee of the Ashburton County Cricket Association met last evening, the president (Mr F. Pritchard) occupying the chair.

The notice of motion in connection with the regrading of F. H. Frew from junior to third grade was allowed to lapse, Mr W. Hockings stating that this player had now decided not to play during the season. The Canterbury Cricket Association advised that the Ashburton Association's suggestion in connection with the trial games for colts had been noted, but it was thought that the present arrangements were quite satisfactory. The delegate to the New Zealand Cricket Council's annual meeting (Mr J. B. Nicoll) was asked to obtain definite rulings on several of the suggested alterations to the Council's rules. '.-.■•"

Mr J. H. Browne said he had been approached by several cricketing enthusiasts at Lowcliffc, asking if the Association could give them a game at any time. There were enough players for two teams in, the district and they had a good turf wicket. All were very keen and he thought the Association should assist them.

It was decided to write to the secretary of the Lowcliffe Club (Mr R. Hutton) advising him that the Association would foster the club to the best of its ability _ and suggesting that ho should approach the other clubs in the

County to see if friendly matches could ■ be arranged. It was decided to ask the senior grade selector (Mr H. B- Millichamp) to submit the names of any -senior players who were thought fit for the Canterbury colts' team to play against „ Country in Christchurch on November 10.
