Mr C. H. Wilson, a railway clorkjit Arthur's Pass, has been transferred to Ashburton, and will arrive here on Thursday.
Mr W. Bryant left Ashburton by the express 'train this morning to attend a meeting of,, the Waipiata Sanatorium Committee at Dunedin.
Mr Derisley Wood, of Cashmere, Christchurch, was a visitor to Ashburton yesterday.
Messrs H. Millichamp, of Tinwald, and E. N. Johnson, of Ashburton, were last evening elected to the Advisory Committee of the Canterbury Roadside Beautifying Association at Christchurch. * ■'■ ■ -'" i A-.'
Reference to the serious illness of Mr John Watson, a former member of the Ashburton Borough Council, was made at the meeting of the Council last evening, and it was agreed to send a letter of sympathy to him.
Mr E. Buchanan (president of the Ashburton Chamber of Commerce) returned to Ashburton this morning from the annual conference of the Associated Chambers of Commerce at Wanganui. ' •
Mr Frank McDonald, formerly of Christchurch and Tim.aru, has. returned from Australia, after being seven years in Sydney and Melbourne. He spent the week-end in Ashburton. He is'a brbther of Mr A. A. McDonald.
Mr C. W. Thomas (stationmaster at Granity, West Coast) has arrived in Ashburton to take over the position of chief clerk at the Ashburton - railway station in succession to Mr P. C. Faris, who has been transferred to Rangiora as stationmaster.
A crystal jug and set of goblets were last evening presented l to Mr J. R. Richardson, who has been Borough Inspector at Ashburton for oyer 10 years, by members of the Borough Council. Making the presentation on behalf of the Council,"the Mayor (Mr W. H. Woods) referred to Mr Richardson's approaching marriage, and . extended to him wishes for his happiness.
