(From Our Own Correspondents.) METHVEN. A meeting of the "Farmers' Queen" Committee in connection with the forthcoming Queen Carnival in aid of tbo Methven Sub-branch of the Plunket Society was held yesterday, Mr A. L. Mangin presiding over a large attendance. It was agreed to support the suggestion of/ the Sports Queen ■Committee that tbe Queen Carnival crowning ceremony be held on December 14. It was also decided to endorse the appointment of Mr A. G. Foreman as lion, treasurer for the carnival. It was decided to hold a sale of produce and afternoon teas on December 7 in aid of tlio Farmers' Queen. It was reported that at the next meeting of the Methven Women's 'lnstitute, which would take the form of a garden party at Mrs Bland's residence, a sale of fruit salad and ice cream would be n^ld. Tbe Festival of All Saints' Day will be celebrated at All Saints' Church to-morrow by Ho)y Communion in the morning and by_ evensong. The Rev. Trevor Williams (vicar of Mount Somers) will be ,tho preacher at the evensong service. Later a social evening will bo held.
DORIE. The final of the card and dance evenings which have been held during thd winter in aid of the Ardamine Hall Committee's funds was held in the Ardamine Hall on Friday evening. The winners of the competitions were: Mrs Malcolm 1, Miss E. Johnston 2; Mr M. Scott 1, Mr J. Beard 2. Music for the dance was supplied by Misses Banks (2) and Johnston, Messrs D. McDonald, D. Banks and R. Lambie. On behalf of the Hall Committee and the Church Social Committee, a presentation was made to Misses Banks for their help at the socials during the winter. BARRHILL. The final of the euchre and" dance evenings which have been held,in tbe Barrhill School during the winter in aid of tbe Barrhill School Committee's funds was held on. 'Friday evening. There was a large attendance. Competitions were won by Mrs J. Cromie and Mr W- Holmes. The aggregate prizes for the year were won by Mr and Mrs W. 0. Toon. Music for the dancing was supplied by Messrs Talbot and A. Fagan, and Mr W. Holmes was M.C.
HINDS. The monthly meeting of the Hinds Women's Institute.was held in the hall recently, when, the president (Mrs W. P. Hockley) presided over a fair at* tendance. ' The Institute song was sung, and the motto for the month read: "A merry heart kills more microbes than medicine." The usual Christmas cheer for relief purposes will be donated by members this year. Suggestions for next year's programme were accepted. Mrs Rawstorn, senior (Lowcliffe), gave a most interesting lecture on "First Aid to the Injured," stressing the importance of knowing tlio "pressure points" in the case of severe haemorrhage. On the'motion of Mrs Joiner the speaker was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. The roll call, "fillings for cakes," brought forth a number of attractive recipes. The hostesses were Mosdames McPherson, B. Brampton and Miss Morris. The comFramp'ton and Miss Morris. The competitions resulted as follow : —Article made from a box, Miss Rose Frampton; best weight hall-dozen hen's eggs, Mrs W. Rodgers' and Miss Faith Rickard (equal) 1, Mrs Rodgers and Mrs Langdon (equal) 2.
