WELLINGTON TROTTING CLUB. ROYAL SILK’S OUP TRIAL. iPer Press Association). WELLINGTON, This Day. Tho Wellington Trotting Club held its spring meeting at the Hutt Park racecourse on Saturday. The meeting, which was very well attended, opened in fine but windy weather, but before the second race rain set in and continued throughout the day, makingconditions unpleasant. At times the wind approached gale force, and the times registered in the different events could "not very well be compared, as conditions changed often during the day. The racing lacked interest generally, due mainly to the small fields, but there was a very exciting finish in the October Handicap. In the circumstances, the total isator turnover held up well, and at the end of the day £12,145 10s had been handled, compared with £14,900 15s on the corresponding day last year, a decrease of £2755 ss.

The Banks Peninsula Raeinf Club’s spring meeting, held at Motukarara on Saturday, attracted a large assemblage of racegoers from all parts of tho district, and interesting racing was seen. Tlie weather was ideal, and the track and grounds were looking at their best. One of the most sensational dividends paid in the South Island foi some considerable time was returned in the Halswell Hack Handicap. Only two ten-shilling tickets on the win machine and 25 on the place machine were issued on the winner, and in consequence the circulation of a large sum of money amongst a few investors had a serious effect on the day’s turnovei. The sum of £6430 10s was handled. Results are as follow:

The totalisator investments were £10,750 10s for the meeting, compared with £5959 10s for the meeting held on the Taumarunui meeting held on the Taumarunui course last year. NEW YORK, October 28. A Laurel message says that Mr Naylor announced that Winooka would definitely run in the Pimlico Handiacap on Wednesday, with a -weight of 8.8. WIN FOR TREVALLIQN. / NEW YORK, October 28. At Baltimore, Trevallion (a stable companion of Winooka’s) galloped to an easy four lengths’ victory over a mile and a sixteenth in the eighth race, Charlie K. being second, and Higlistocks third. Britt rode Trevallion, who won by four lengths, and eased up, receiving a big “hand” from the crowd. The winner was a rank outsider.

Pasha, by Rampion from Turkish Holiday, trained by the New Zealander J. T. Jamieson, had an all-the-way win in the first division of the St. Albans Handicap, for tw'o-year-old colts. Mr W. R. Kemball’s Cavalcade (Chief Ruler—Rosellate) was fourth.

The Wearier (Paper Money—Piquant), trained by> A. D. Webster, rvas third in the second division of the same race, which was won by Farndale (Curialis —All Chatter), owned by J. Fell and' A. G. Hunter. He wa's ridden by Ashley Reed and is trained by Lou Robertson.

Weatherwise (Weathervane —Sennight) dislocated his off fore fetlock joint.

HALL MARK’S RIDER.

ROBBED OF A MEAL, t J. O’Sullivan, the Sydney lightweight who will probably ride Hall Mark in the Melbourne Cup, is 21 years of age, and can go to scale at 7st-. He is in the last year of his apprenticeship. When he had finished riding work on Derby day at Randwick his master said to him: “No breakfast for you. You are wanted to ride Gothiin at 6.12 in the Trial. You had better lie down and rest.” When the Trial Stakes came on, O’Sulliyan was pained to find that Gothlin’s weight was 7.5. His breakfast had been sacrificed for nothing. A little later he was observed by a Pressman parked behind a plate of sandwiches piled up high enough to almost hide him. '■<
