TECHNICAL SCHOOL.
DECISIONS OF THE BOARD. The Ashhurton Technical School Board of Managers met last evening, when there were present Messrs A. L. Jones (chairman), J. .Watson, W. G. Hillier, E. Buchanan, W. Bramley, A. brown and R. Houston. The financial statement showed that there was a credit balance of £IBB 10s Id, the incidental allowance for the month being £55. Tne Principal (Mr R, J. Thompson) reported as follows: — ••During tlie month the work lias been pusned on. in view of the importance of tne end-of-torm examinations. Mr D. Mackenzie was compelled, through iliiiess, to ask for leave of absence, and his place is being filled by Mr H. Bibbv, B.So. If sufficient students enrol, the usual shearing class will commence early in November. ••What is hoped to be an improvement in the typing classes is tlie introduction of phonographic records lor the purpose oi obtaining even rhythm combined! wita. concentration. On Inday last the annual dinner provided by the students was given to members or the Borough and County Councils, 'the function was most successful, the solid four-course meal being set out in a. surprisingly dainty manner. "Mr Andrew? Brown, of Elgin, has been chosen as a representative of the Canterbury Education Board oil tho board. The annual sports will be held on the school grounds on Thursday, October 26. During the month, two girls and one boy have obtained positions making a total of of 33 up (to date for the present year. Considering present conditions, this must bo counted very satisfactory, particularly as in only one case"has the result been- the loss of a position by a person already employed. "Tlie Avoul-classing class for unemployed, taken" by Mr Brian Donnelly throughout the winter, has closed after a most successful session, in which many interesting talks on various aspects of the wool industry were given." The report was adopted. A satisfactory report on the work of the school and the state of the buildings and grounds was presented by Mr Houston, on behalf of the Visiting Committee. The election of executive, held over from last month, resulted:—Messrs A. I* Jones, J. Watson, E. Buchanan, R. Houston and W. G. Hillier.
