TARIFF COMMISSION.
EVIDENCE AT DUNEPIN.
(Per Press Association). DUNEDIN, September 15
Producing samples of English and New Zealand tweeds, a representative of the master tailors declared before the Tariff Commission that even an amateur could select imported from Dominion materials. Later, however, ho refused to take the responsibility of making a similar differentiation of samples produced by the Manufacturers' Federation.
Mr J: B. Gilmour (president of the Teviot Fruit Growers' Association) requested that in any revision of the tariff affecting the canning industry the interests of fruit growers should be recognised and safeguarded, and any reduction of the present tariff on canned fruit would result in fruit growing becoming quite impossible. Mr G. A. Skene (president of the Horticultural Seed Merchants' Association) asked for the removal of the duty on imported seed packets not illustrated.
The Commission expects to leave for Christchurch next Thursday.
