MOTORISTS KILLED.

ITALIAN RACERS COLLIDE. COMPETITOR INCINERATED. FOUR CARS INVOLVED. (United Press Association—Copyright). MILAN, September 10. Two accidents, involving the death of three well-known Italian racing motor drivers, marred the Grand Prix of Italy meeting at Monza. The victims were Campari, Borzacehini and Count Czaikowski. In the second heat of the 63 kilometres race, Campari, driving an Alfa Romeo, collided with three other ears, driven by Borzacehini, Barbieri and Castelbargo, the collision apparently being due to the slippery nature of the track as the result of the lieavy rain, or spilt oil. One competitor, Ballestrero, who avoided death by supreme skill and remained in the race, said afterwards: “I was six yards behind the victims when, amid a bursting cloud of smoke, Borzacehini’s and Campari’s cars, which had apparently touched 130 miles an hour, somersaulted over the 13-foot embankment, beside the track; Castelbargo over-precipitately jammed on his brakes and skidded off the track on the opposite side and was thrown out. Barbieri’s car somersaulted three times into a field.”

. After the first, accident, Count Czaikowski, holder of the world’s hour record and winner of the first heat, was leading ten competitors in the final when his car overturned near the fatal spot. It left the track and burst into flames, incinerating the occupant in the presence of thousands of horrorstricken spectators, including his wife, whom friends led away dazed.

The racing, nevertheless, proceeded. The distance was reduced from 22 laps to 14. >

Lord Howe and. Mr Whitney-Straight; smilingly rejected a suggestion that they should retire, declaring that the accident was no reason to give up. The result was: * Lehoux (Bugstti), 21min 17sec ... 1 Mill (Alfa-Romeo) 21min 20 l-ssec 2 Bonetto (Alfa-Romeo) 21min 28 l-ssec 3 Whitney-Straight, 21min 28 4-ssec 4 Lord Howe Was not placed.
