CALCUTTA, August 28. The veil is gradually lifting from recent events in Iraq. There is now no dpubt ' that the massacre took place in the village of Simel, 40 miles from Mosul, in which, it is alleged, fleeing Assyrian Christians passed the night. According to the Baghdad correspondent of the Calcutta newspaper “Statesman,” soldiers of. the Iraq Army entered the village and proceeded to butcher the 700 inhabitants all unarmed.
