TBE ASHBURTON FESTIVAL. ANOTHER INTERESTING DAY. RECALLS FOR THIS EVENING. Patrons of the Ashburton Competitions Society's festival spent another I interesting day in His Majesty's Theatre to-day, when two crowded sessions were held. The classes this morning were all for adults, and again there ■was much to interest and please. The six competitors taking part in the piano championship contest for the coveted Tucker Trophy appeared this morning in the sight reading section. The competitors are: Misses Jean McLeod (Christchurch), Louise Tonkin (Oamaru), Noeline Marshall (Dunedm), Audrey Ruddock (Ashburton), Mariorie McDowell (Dunedin) and Mr Stanley Morgan (Christchurch). The final of this contest, the set piece, "Prelude, Choral et Fugue," by Cesar Franck, will be played to-morrow evening, which is the final night for the Competitions so far as judging is concerned. Demonstration concerts by winners in the several sections will be given on Wednesday and Thursday evenings In the afternoon the Tucker Trophy competitors played their own choice of music in this contest, and there *bb a very large attendance of patrons. Results of to-day's sessions up to the time the "Guardian" went to press were as follow: —

Also Competed: Misses •Winifred Bruce, Sarah F. Morgan (Timaru), Nancy Bishop, Marie Campbell (Timaru), Lillian Richardson (Timaru), Mona Whitford, Vera Dalzell (Riccarton), Bona Brown, Myrtle Wraight (Dunsaudel), Annie McCuinness (Lowcliff e). SONG, sacred, gentlemen. Own selection. Recalls: Messrs Colin Campbell (Timaru) and W. Bradshaw (Ch-ch). Also Competed: Messrs El. Hendy (Ch-ch), C. E, Hopwpod (Tinwald) and E. Coker. SONG, girls, 11 and under 13. Own selection. Miss Margaret Dixon (Ch-ch), 90pts 1 Miss Norma Sturrock (Ch-ch) 86pts 2 Highly commended: Miss June Tong (Southbridge). Also Competed: Miss Joan Thomas. SONG, in character, girls or boys, 11 and under 14. Recalls: Misses Margaret Dixon (Ch-ch) and Billie Addis (Ch-ch). Also Competed: Master Ross Penbale, Misses Joyce Dunham, Norma Sturrock (Ch-ch) and Dorothy Shah (Ch-ch). Elocutionary Section. RECITATION, non-humorous, lady or gentleman. Recalls: Misses Barbara Mclnnes (Timaru) and Molly Fowler (Ch-ch). Also Competed: Misses Myra Capstick (Palmerstoii), Ida, Ede, Hazel Shier (Ch-ch) and Stella Bray.
