NEW YORK STATE TITLE (United Press Association—Copyright). NEW YORK, August 9. ' Lou Brouillard, a Canadian-born boxer, and former welter-weight champion, knocked out Ben Jcby, who was recognised in New York State as middle-weight title holder, in the seventh of a 15-round match. ( PENDING VISIT TO BRISBANE NEW ZEALAND AMATEURS (Per Press Association). WELLINGTON/ August 10. Mr G. Bush (president of the Auckland Boxing Association) has been invited by the Council of .the New r Zealand Boxing Association to. act as the manager of a team of seven amateur boxers from the Dominion who are to visit Brisbane early in September to compete against Australian champions. THE ASHBURTON ASSOCIATION. A meeting of the general committee of the Ashburton Boxing Association was held last night, Mr H. D. Johnston presiding. A motion of sympathy with the relatives of the late Mr Keith Cowan was carried in silence. The balance-sheet in connection with the benefit tournament for Mrs Cowan was submitted. Mr Gass generously donated to the fund his charges for the accommodation of the boxers who came down from Christchurch to participate, and was heartily thanked for his .action. Correspondence was received from the New Zealand Boxing Association and the Blenheim Association with reference to the New Zealand championships to be held in Blenheim next month. Advice was received from the New Zealand Association that Mr G. Terriss had been granted a trainer’s license. Messrs T. Harris, T. Croft and Billy Sullivan wrote in connection with the proposed professional tournament, advising that Bert Lowe had an injured hand and would not be able to compete for some time. T. Croft was under engagement to the Southland Association and Sullivan was resuming light training. Mr J. Twaithes wrote asking if the
Association could match Colin Jones with any feather-weight. It was decided to hold the matter over for the present. It was resolved to hold the MidCanterbury championships on Friday, Angust 18, and to forward nominations for the New Zealand championships after the tournament. The following officials were appointed: Referee, Mr H. J. Dillon; judges, Messrs J. H. Grigg, A. N. Grig©, H. R. C. McElrea and J. B. Cullen; announcer, Mr H. D. Johnston; timekeepers, Messrs F. Robilliard and C. 13. Gass; scales and doctor’s stewards, Messrs A. Haystou, J. Murdoch and H. Marsden; competitors’ stewards, Messrs F. Crum and D. Lynch; house stewards, Messrs F. Crum, F. Porter, M. Keelev and W. Tucker; rounds and gloves, Messrs E. J. Burgess and J. W. Smith; official seconds, Messrs C. Stock and C. Shearman. A deputation consisting of Messrs T. Connolly, G. Smart and J. O’Reilly waited on the committee from the Rakaia Boxing School with reference to staging a tournament at Rakaia. It was agreed to support the proposal, Mr Johnston assuring the delegates of the willingness of the Association to do all it could to assist them. The deputation thanked the Association for its interest.
