(From the ’“Guardian,” Aug. 11, 1908) Removal of Trees.—A great deal of pressure has been brought to bear of late to induce the Domain' Board to remove some trees that are said to overshadow some of the Borough Council reserves in Wills Street, to. such an extent as to hinder the Council from successfully leasing the sections, fi the trees in question are really the cause of the sections being unoccupied, and not being built upon, the Domain Board should certainly put aside all sentiment and have the trees removed. Generally speaking, pine trees, when they reach the stage these particular trees have reached, are by no means ornamental, and any benefit they may conifer in the summer months is somewhat discounted by the damage and inconvenience they are responsible for in the winter; but, of course, in the present case, the matter should be dealt with on its merits.
Ashburton Guards.—The following is the result of No. 4= Morris-tube match by the Ashburton Guards:— Private A. £>lade, 34—5—39, first; Private T. Crawford, 31—4—35, second; Lance-Corporal Bradshaw, 34—scr—34, third. i
Personal.—Mr Fleming, who is at present relieving at the Glenavy railway station, will succeed Mr White as stationmaster at Chertsey.
